The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is the largest humanitarian network in the world with a presence in almost every country. Australian Red Cross is one of the 186 members of international Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The Vision of Australian Red Cross is to improve the lives of vulnerable people in Australia and internationally by mobilising the power of humanity. The University of Wollongong Red Cross Club (founded in July 2008) is committed to supporting the actions of Australian Red Cross by:
- Organising fundraising events for Red Cross
- Volunteering our time and efforts for Red Cross campaigns, projects and events
- Organising projects that help to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the local, national and international community
- Increasing awareness about the Red Cross and their vision
- Acting in compliance with the Fundamental Principles of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Services, Unity and Universality
- UOW Red Cross Club is an excellent way to support a worthwhile organisation as well as develop your interests in a social and enjoyable environment with like-minded people.
- Red Cross Club is affiliated with Australian Red Cross (www.redcross.org.au)
The UOW Red Cross Club has over 40 active members. They meet every couple of weeks at the University on Wednesdays 12:30-1:30pm.
